Sheepskin Seat Covers Cleaning Guidelines

Sheepskin seat covers are an excellent choice for your car. They are hypoallergenic, keep you warm in winter, cool in summer, and offer your seats great protection. They are comfortable and soft to sit in as well. The other great reason to use sheepskin automobile seat covers is that they are washable, so you can easily keep them clean! Here are some guidelines for keeping your sheepskin car seat covers clean.

General Maintenance

To maintain your sheepskin covers looks, there are some simple maintenance steps you can take. To begin with, it is imperative to vacuum them once per month. After they are vacuumed, use a sheepskin care brush to brush out the wool. Sheepskin care brushes are also called slicker brushes or wool cards. Coarser brushes achieve better results.

If you notice the wool pile is out of form, then you will want to brush them out to get them looking their best again. You also may want to occasionally remove the covers and just shake them to get any loose dirt out.

Use the Right Detergent

It is of the utmost importance that you do not choose a detergent that will discolor or harm your sheepskin seat covers. Do not purchase detergents that contain bleach, alkalis, washing enzymes, or peroxide. Woolskin shampoo products are the best thing to use, although ivory soap or baby shampoo can get the job done in a pinch but do not use Woolite as it will dry out the hide. Be sure to spot test anything you use to ensure it will not ruin your sheepskin.

Washing Your Sheepskin Covers

Once you have the right detergent, you can wash your covers. You only need to wash your covers when there is a stain of some sort or something sticky has gotten on the sheepskin. If there is a small spot, you can spot wash.

How to Spot Wash Sheepskin

To spot wash your covers use a sponge with cold water to dampen the dirty spot on the sheepskin. Be sure not to use hot water, as hot water will cause shrinkage and damage to the fleece.

Once the sheepskin has been dampened, you can use a washcloth to rub in the detergent. Then, use the damp sponge to wipe out the detergent. Use your sheepskin brush to brush it out, then lay it flat indoors to dry. Do not let it dry in the sun, as it can cause damage.

How to Completely Wash Sheepskin

If your entire seat cover needs washing, you will need to hand wash them in cold water. Use detergent in cold water, then submerge the seat cover and wash it. Use cold water to thoroughly rinse your sheepskin cover. Let the cover dry naturally indoors, occasionally stretching out the skin to ensure it does not shrink. Reinstall the seat cover when it is about 90% dry to prevent shrinking. Once dry, use the sheepskin brush to restore the fleece to its normal look.

Four Reasons You Should Want Genuine Sheepskin Slippers

Four Reasons You Should Want Genuine Sheepskin Slippers

Owning a pair of sheepskin slippers is beneficial in so many different ways outside of them being super cozy and cute. You don’t want to buy just any pair though. Get the real deal. The faux slippers may look just as comfortable but you won’t get the real benefits of sheepskin, so they’re just not worth it!

If you’ve been on the fence about whether or not you should invest in a genuine pair of sheepskin slippers, then this article is definitely for you. By the end of this article, you’re not going to want anything less than the real deal.

1. Perfect year-round slip-ons

Sheepskin slip-ons are top of the notch when it comes to coziness. You may look at them and think they’re just for warmth in the winter, but in fact, they’re actually comfortable all year round. Genuine sheepskin is naturally breathable. The thermostatic property of sheepskin is what keeps your feet warm during the winter and prevents them from overheating in warmer weather.

2. Hypoallergenic and soothing for irritated skin

Sheepskin contains fewer allergens than other materials, which makes sheepskin even more perfect for people who have sensitive skin due to allergies.

Not only are sheepskin slippers extremely cozy but they are also very soothing, especially if you have irritated skin on your feet (cracked, peeling, rough patches, etc).

The lanolin, which is produced naturally by sheep, helps to heal and protect your feet. Lanolin is also a natural antibacterial, so your feet will stay fresh and odor-free for hours.

3. Extremely durable

Sheepskin is a naturally absorbent material which means, it can absorb a great amount of moisture before it becomes damp or wet. Unlike some other slippers, which are made of man-made material and fibers, sheepskin slippers will give you years of wear.

4. Easy to clean and maintain

Cleaning genuine sheepskin slippers is as simple as a quick hand wash. If they have a soft sole, you can machine wash them. Either way, you’ll always want to make sure you’re following the care guide provided, especially if you want to get the most wear out of them.

Genuine sheepskin is worth the investment, especially if you’re considering durability and comfort. Be aware that there are some companies that will try to sell you faux sheepskin for the price of real sheepskin, so find a company that’s been around for years that you can trust.

Sheepskin Factory is a great example. We are based in Denver, Colorado and has been around for 40 years. You can buy their sheepskin products online or visit the Sheepskin Factory store in Denver, CO for a larger range of genuine, high-quality sheepskin products.

Reasons to Use Medical Sheepskin

Reasons to Use Medical Sheepskin
Pressure injuries and bedsores are a few of the simplest in-hospital complications to counter. Perhaps the most reliable solution to this issue is applying sheepskin for bedsores right away.

Sheepskins for Pressure Injuries

The comfort and warmth of sheepskins for pressure injuries are one of the best provisions of support and cushion for bed-ridden or wheelchair-bound patients. This allows the skin to stay protected. Sheepskin commodities are being used extensively throughout the healthcare industry now.

Here are some of the benefits natural wool fibers provide:

  • The organic composition of wool fibers allows it to be soft and springy at the same time. The weight can then be distributed across the body to lessen the tension on pressure points. This is a vital point in preventing bedsores.
  • They do not impart friction on the skin like ordinary fabrics. Friction aggravates the skin and makes sores form. Sheepskin can get rid of this hazard.
  • Sheepskin lets air flow over the skin. This provides more ventilation and breathability qualities for the skin.
  • Wool fibers counter bacterial germination. This lowers the chance of blisters or sores developing from bacterial contagions on pressure points.
  • Sheepskin keeps its warmth after absorbing varying quantities of moisture. For patients who may perspire a lot, their skin can remain dry due to the way sheepskin sucks up moisture effectively.

These characteristics are the reasoning for why vast amounts of hospitals decide to use sheepskin medical products to treat bedsores. Using the right care and precautionary measures along with the sheepskins, pressure sores and bedsores can definitively be circumvented.

Medical Sheepskin Padding

The sheepskin can also be applied as a sort of therapeutic padding. Medical sheepskin padding arrives either in bed pad or seat pad designs. The seat pads were devised to suit wheelchair-bound seniors or other patients who are unable to move from their wheelchair alone. Medical seat pads made from sheepskin are hypoallergenic and great at eliminating pressure sores as well. Put these anywhere a patient has to sit such as an office chair, sofa or car seat for best results.

Sheepskin bed pads are utilized with beds where the patient will be lying down. Such medical bed pads could be placed on high back chairs as well.

Sheepskin Heel and Elbow Guards

Heel and elbow sheepskin medical protectors are out there for those with tender skin who have to use heel and elbow casts because of an accident. The typical cast is going to be fashioned from damaging and rough materials that can be dangerous with sensitive skin. It's exacerbated even more because of how the cast is generally worn over long periods. The bone damage such as a fracture needs quite a bit of time to mend.

Stopping bed sores from forming immediately is now easy with the use of medical sheepskins. They afford top-notch shielding for any sore points. Pressure injuries are a critical health problem many seniors and immobile patients encounter. It increases the interest in using medical sheepskin elbow and heel protectors and sheepskin medical pads at all hours to preserve patients' health.

Benefits of Sheepskin Seat Covers

Benefits of Sheepskin Seat Covers

Jumping into your car on a hot summer’s day can be an uncomfortable experience. Hot temperatures can easily turn your car seats in to searing surfaces. Equally as frustrating, the cold winter months can turn your car seat into an ice bucket. If these are familiar predicaments, why not upgrade your basic car seats, and provide yourself some stylish relief? Genuine sheepskin car seat covers provide an array of benefits. This stylish selection also stands out as a solid investment. Why is sheepskin the best choice you may ask? Take a look at just a few of the benefits.

Hypoallergenic

Sheepskin’s hypoallergenic benefits are largely attributed to the lanolin it contains. Lanolin found in natural sheepskin make it resistant to dirt, bacteria and odors. It not only contains self-cleaning qualities that strengthen its antibacterial properties, but it is gentle on the skin as well. Using genuine sheepskin seat covers can help the skin when inflamed, prone to allergies, or when experiencing irritation from heat sensitivity. When placed against skin, it can even activate its blood circulation, aiding in relaxation.

Breathability

Although its plush look may lead one to assume that sheepskin seat covers are only useful when trying to stay warm, its wool is what allows it to regulate temperature so well. The hollow fibers found in sheepskin car seat covers encase air. When warming, the air can quickly adjust to body temperature providing instant relief. In cooling, the wool can absorb moisture, up to 30% of its weight, before becoming wet. Additionally, it releases heat immediately into the air seven times faster than other synthetic materials. Because the fibers are a partial insulator, they also aid in releasing static electricity naturally created from your body friction and the environment. The versatility in temperature control it offers can provide year-round comfort.

Luxury

Not only does sheepskin provide a look and feel of luxury, they help in retaining your car’s value. Over time, they prove to be durable, long-lasting, and easy to maintain. Additionally, the densely grouped fibers also provide a natural cushion, aiding back comfort by relieving pressure points while you drive. While you experience the pleasure and natural benefits of genuine sheepskin seat covers, you also protect the integrity of the original upholstery. This can add to your vehicle’s resale value, making them an investment that not only pays for itself, but increases your car’s value.

When selecting products for your vehicle, keep in mind the beneficial and comfortable experience using sheepskin seat covers can offer.
